Setting a Transfer’s Urgency¶
A transfer’s urgency determines when it will be sent relative to other transfers active on the same server.
There are five levels. From most to least urgent:
Urgency |
|---|
Critical |
High |
Medium |
Low |
Idle |
More urgent transfers are sent ahead of less urgent ones. By default, transfers to the same destination run one at a time: in urgency order, then in the order they were requested. So two equally urgent transfers to the same destination complete in the order you started them. Transfers to different destinations run at the same time, up to 10 on a server by default. A less urgent transfer that runs beside a more urgent one gives way to it. The server administrator can change both limits.
The default for a new transfer is Medium, unless the server administrator has set a different default for the destination.
To change a transfer’s urgency:
Switch to the Transfer Manager.
In the Transfer Manager, click the ᐧᐧᐧ symbol to the left of the transfer to be adjusted. This will open a popup menu.
From the popup menu, choose a value from Urgency.
Note
You may change the urgency of any transfer you started, at any time, including while it is running. Changing the urgency of a transfer belonging to another user requires administrator privileges on the server.
Warning
Raising a transfer’s urgency affects the whole server, not just your own transfer. A transfer raised above the others will be sent ahead of them, and may pause a transfer that is already running — including transfers belonging to other users.
Tip
The current urgency is shown in the Transfer Summary.
Note
Urgency replaced the separate priority and priority lane settings in version 3.0.0. The lane percentages those settings appeared to control had no effect on bandwidth sharing, so a single ordering setting replaces both.
