Using Network Shares on Windows¶
Jetstream Server will not be able to access drive letters of mapped network shares, because the drive letters are assigned per-user, and Jetstream Server runs as a system service. To access network shares in Jetstream Server, the share has to be accessed using a sandbox, directory link, or a mount point.
Sandboxes¶
Jetstream File sandbox type can be used to expose shares to users by pointing directly to shares using UNC paths. A Sandbox can be specified using a command line option --sandbox-dir
, or set as an additional sandbox using the Jetstream API. For more details, please refer to the File sandbox type documentation.
Directory Links¶
For example, to give users access to a network share at \\fileserver\storage
, a directory link needs to be created on one of the local drives. Using the Command Prompt running as Administrator:
C:\WINDOWS\system32> cd c:\
c:\> mkdir shares
c:\> cd shares
c:\shares> mklink /d storage \\fileserver\storage
Now, when a user connects to a Jetstream Server running on this machine, the user will be able to browse to C:\shares\storage
and browse any files and directories they have permissions to access.
Note
In order for Jetstream Server to access any files on a network share, the files on the share that Jetstream Server needs to access will require access by the machine account. For example, if the machine Jetstream Server is running on is called JETSTREAM-SERVER, the network share will need at least read permissions for $JETSTREAM-SERVER.
